7/21/04. Soybeans R?. BLB = .1/sweep. BLB starting to show itself with very low populations. Aphids still not found in this field. We have found other fields in Buena Vista County with very low levels of soybean aphids. General comments about the field: Weed escapes are showing up on high pH soils on west side of field. Foxtails and Waterhemp have broken through the canopy. West side of field has had a history of severe Iron Chlorosis and Soybean Cyst Nematode. The variety planted in this area is a SCN resistant variety with a good chlorosis score. Most of the waterhemp have been hoed out while the foxtail has been left for the season.
7/30/04. Soybeans R3. BLB=.34/sweep. Aphids=.05/plant. BLB in this field have peaked below economic treatment level. Aphids are on the rise, but still very low populations.
8/5/04. Soybeans R4. BLB=0.2/sweep. Aphids = 1/plant. Low insect numbers
8/9/04. Soybeans R4. BLB=0.1/sweep. Aphids = 2.2/plant. Low insect counts.
8/17/04. Soybeans R . BLB=.4/sweep. aphids = 15/plant. Both BLB and aphids are light and will not be sprayed.
