CURRENT SCOUTING NOTES

6/4/04:  Corn V2.  Soybeans V1.  No insects reported.  Soybeans need sprayed soon.  No herbicide applied to date.  80% of field dry enough to spray, but the remaining 20% will delay application.  Needs 1-2 days drying weather.

6/8/04:  Corn ?  Soybeans V1.  Soybean weed pressure moderate.  Needs sprayed when dries out.  Corn weed control good, some ragweed and cocklebur escaping.  Residue holding erosion well.  Neighboring fields washing severely.

6/17/04:  Corn ? Soybeans V4.  BLB = .4.  Uneven growth due to wetness.  Overall condition good.  1/2 rate of Harness Xtra did not hold weeds in corn.  Need to respray or cultivate within 5 days, weather permitting.

6/26/04:  Corn V7.  Soybeans V5.  No insects reported.

6/30/04.  Corn ? . Soybeans V6.  BLB=.7/swp.  NE field on farm had N sidedressed in strips as part of the ISA on farm trials.  Strips are very visible due to color differences, but all the corn looks excellent.

7/7/04.  Corn V9.  Soybeans V6.  No insects reported.  Side dressed nitrogen strips very evident visually.  Aerial photos taken show strips even better.  Not as noticeable on ground.

7/15/04.  Corn V10.  Soybeans R2.

7/19/04.  Corn V11.  Soybeans R2.  No insects reported.

7/28/04.  Corn R2.  Soybeans R2.  BLB=7 per 20 sweeps

8/04/04.  Corn R3.  Soybeans R3.  No insects reported.

8/12/04.  Corn R3. Soybeans R3.  No insects reported.

8/17/04.  Corn R?. Soybeans R4.  BLB= 5 per 20 sweeps.  Corn Yield estimate = 160 bu.  Yield potential is 180+bu where N was sidedressed, and 130 where no additional N was applied.  Aerial photos taken on August 12 shows many yellow spots that correlate to soils, and very evident strips where every other 24 rows was sidedressed with N.

8/26/04.  Corn R4.  Soybeans R4.  BLB=1 per 20 sweeps.  Beans look great except tall waterhemp has come through the canopy.  Corn has patches of ragweed everywhere. Yield estimate on corn = 198, but needs time.
