| CURRENT
SCOUTING NOTES |
| 6/3/04.
Soybeans V1. Corn ? No insects reported.
Weeds getting ahead of the crop due to wet weather delaying
Roundup application. Spraying on May 26 is working
and the rest of the farm was sprayed on June 3 which
will take off the current flush. Plenty of wet
areas.
6/8/04. Soybeans V1. Corn V4. Corn
population: 32-36,000. Soybeans: 160,000.
Roundup working very well, all weeds dying. Fields
wet but not ponded.
6/17/04: Soybeans V3. Corn V5. No
insects reported.
6/26/04: Soybeans V6. Corn V6. No
insects reported.
7/2/04. Soybeans V6. Corn V7. Major portions
of corn field showing N deficient.
7/8/04. Soybeans R1. Corn V8. Corn
height is very uneven, but looks good from the ground.
Aerial photos taken on July 8 shows very uneven corn
and yellowing on the majority of corn fields in Howard
County. Lower areas are under water and drowned
out. 5.2" of rain on July ?. I suspect
many corn fields will run out of nitrogen before the
season is over.
7/12/04. Soybeans R1. Corn V7. No insects
reported. Another 1.5" rain.
7/19/04. Soybeans R2. Corn V11. No
insects reported. Nitrogen deficiency is showing
up in corn. Bottom leaves are fired.
7/27/04. Soybeans R2. Corn R2. BLB = 4 per
20 sweeps
8/02/04. Soybeans R3. Corn R3. No insects
reported.
8/12/04. Soybeans R3. Corn R3. No
insects reported.
8/18/04. Soybeans R4. Corn R4. BLB=
1 per 20 sweeps. Corn yield estimate = 183 bu.
where N was side dressed, 127 bu. where no additional
N was applied. N deficiency very evident visually
and from aerial observation.
8/26/04. Soybeans R5. Corn R4. BLB
= 2 per 20 sweeps. Beans are waist high and look
excellent, but need time and no frost. Corn is
the same story as previous weeks. Areas short
of N will have reduced yields. |
