CURRENT SCOUTING NOTES

6/2/04:  Soybeans VC.  No insects reported.  20 acres of APSA 80 applied on north side at 32 oz/ac.  A test strip of 5.5 acres of 300# of calcium sulphate and 100# of ammonium sulphate in the middle of the field GPS referenced.

6/10/04:  Soybeans V1.  Beans look good.  Scouted field but too wet to scout thoroughly.  Beans looked bigger where we had starter fertilizer.  No insects found.

6/15/04:  Soybeans V2.  Very little leaf feeding.  No insects found.  Whole field is covered with venice mallow and some grass.  Spray in about a week to 10 days.  It appeared that the soybeans with starter fertilizer has a better stand.

6/22/04:  Soybeans V4.  No insects found.  Iron chlorosis now obvious in over 50% of the field with pH across the field ranging from 7.9 and above.  Time to spray weeds and grass.  (Scattered cockleburs, venice mallow, and grass.

6/28/04.  Soybeans V5.  No insects found.  Iron chlorosis throughout the field but not as significant on the North 30 acres.  Possibly this is a direct result of the application of the APSA 80?? Has not been sprayed yet - some of the burrs getting to be about a foot tall.  Venice mallow all over the field.  Grass not soddy yet.  Should be sprayed now.

7/7/04.  Soybeans R1.  No insects found.  Iron chlorosis still visible over about 60% of the field.  Weed control good.

7/13/04. Soybeans R2.  No insects found.  Some brown spot & bacterial blight.  Iron chlorosis continues to be a problem.  Beans showing more stress on south 60 acres.

7/20/04.  Soybeans R2.  No insects found.  Bacterial blight and iron chlorosis.

7/26/04.  Soybeans R2.  No insects found.  Iron chlorosis over 5% of the field and is lessening every week.  Venice Mallow should be sprayed again. Some volunteer roundup corn, but may not be a yield limiting factor.  Minimal amount of brown spot and bacterial blight.

8/5/04  Soybeans R2.  No insects found.  North 1/2 of this field looks better than the south 1/.  Still some iron chlorosis.  A lot of varied sizes of bean plants due to iron chlorosis.  Sprayed volunteer corn is dying.  Other weed control good.

8/12/04.  Soybeans R3.  No soybean aphids or bean leaf beetles found.  Still a lot of varied sizes of beans.

8/18/04.  Soybeans R4.  No aphids or bean leaf beetles found.  Beans are looking better.

8/27/04.  Soybeans R5.  No aphids or bean leaf beetles found.
