CURRENT SCOUTING NOTES

5/29:  Soybeans emerged well and population is excellent. We will do extensive population counts next week. Soybeans are V1 stage with Very Light Bean Leaf Beetle feeding noticed. Bean Leaf Beetles here on a per/ft of row basis would be <1. See some bacterial blight in the Soybeans which is common here right now. This should resolve itself with warm temperatures and sun. Small foxtail, velvetleaf, cocklebur, waterhemp, all under 1" are growing since burndown treatment of Glyphosate.

6/8/04:  Soybeans V4.  Soybeans growing well with better color from warmer weather.  New leaves look better and recovering from Bacterial Blight.  I do see some Brown Spot on some unifoliate leaves.  Plan to spray with Glyphosate next 5-7 days.

6/16/04:  Beans V5 to V6.  Just sprayed with Glyphosate.  See some Bacterial Brown Spot on Unifoliate leaves.  Warmer weather has improved color and size.  No insect problems.

6/21/04.  Soybeans V7 with a few <10% starting to bloom.  Good color and nodulation.  Roots look good on plants checked.  Weeds dying well from Glyphosate application, and could see no application errors.  Only insects noticed are Potato Leaf Hoppers occasionally and a few thrips.

7/9/04.  Soybeans R3.  See a few (New) Bean Leaf Beetles (BLB = .5/sweep).  No aphids.  Weed control excellent.  Brown spot moderate here with one or two bottom trifoliates affected severely.  Top growth looks good.

7/15/04.  Soybeans still mostly R3.  BLB = .8 (light).  No Aphids.  Bacterial Blight and Brown spot evident.

7/20/04.  Soybeans R3.  BLB=.8/sweep.  Soybeans R3 throughout.  Bean Leaf Beetles Light.  Adjacent field has low levels of Soybean Aphid.  I could not find any in this field today, but suspect that will change very soon.

8/5/04.  Soybeans R4.  BLB=.1/sweep.  BLB are declining fast and so are soybean aphids.  Finding occasional spot of white mold.

8/10/04.  Soybeans R4.  No BLB or Soybean Aphids found today. So far no signs of SDS.

8/19/04.  Soybeans R5.  No insect problems.  No SDS noticed.

8/31/04.  Soybeans R5 late.  beans look good.  Couple of spots of white mold growing larger in the waterway areas.  Majority of the field looks good.  No insect problems noticed.  We should see the reemergence of BLB soon.
