CURRENT SCOUTING NOTES

6/2/04:  Soybeans V4.  Herbicide application working well, with no misses noticed in fields.  Soybeans have a little Bean leaf Beetle feeding noted, but no further beetles noticed today.  Beans are in 30" rows with a good 10 beans/ft so stand is very good.  Ground is wet and beans have a lime green appearance which I attribute to the need for some sunshine and dryer conditions so the roots can develop and produce needed N.

6/9/04:  Soybeans V4.  Also growing out of Bacterial Blight Symptoms.  Weeds dying from Glyphosate application, although Giant Ragweed appear to be hanging in a bit too well.  The application was made 10 days ago.  No insect problems.

6/15/04:  Soybeans are V5 to V6.  Herbicide application appeared to be killing weds, but apparently received rain too soon after application. Giant ragweed, and Velvetleaf are regrowing from lower stems.  The field is scheduled to be resprayed with Roundup.  I am noticing some Bacterial Brown spot showing on Unifoliate leaves.  Also see some isolated areas of Lumax carryover where sprayer from last year's application doubled up.  Bacterial Blight symptoms have remained low since warmer weather.  See a few grasshoppers feeding near grass waterways.

6/24/04.  Soybeans R1.  No insect problems at this time.  Weeds - Giant ragweed dying slowly.  Dealer insists on adding Resource to tank mix for who knows what reason.  I think it inhibits uptake of Roundup on Giant Ragweed.  Rest of weeds seem to be dead.

6/29/04.  Soybeans R1.  Soybeans recovering well from herbicide burn and growing well.  Some light bacterial blight symptoms noticed.  All weeds except a few Giant ragweed have been killed by the Glyphosate application.  Time will tell on remaining weeds.

7/6/04.  Soybeans R2.  Small Bean pods forming on bottom of plant.  Bean growth and color good.  Brown spot evident on all plants.  No insect problems.

7/10/04.  Soybeans R3.  BLB=.5/sweep.  Soybeans are R3, Bean Leaf Beetle (New) are present with very low numbers.  Started seeing these in fields a few days ago.  No Aphids noticed.  Light brown spot on lower leaves.  Few Giant Ragweed still present in small spots not killed by two roundup/resource applications.  Soybeans are now shading the 30" rows in most areas.

7/15/04.   Soybeans R4.  BLB=1.0/sweep.  Soybeans R3-R4 nice height and podded within 5" of ground.  Few BLB.  No Aphids.

7/23/04 .  Soybeans R3.  BLB = .5/sweep.  Few BLB.  No aphids yet.

8/3/04.  Soybeans R4.  BLB=.2/sweep.  BLB are declining.  Aphids are in the area, but light.  I did not find any here today.  See small spots of SDS showing up mainly where tracks are in soybeans.  Brown spot still evident as bottom leaf or two yellow with brown lesions.  Beans podded fairly well.

8/11/04.  Soybeans R5.  Soybeans podded well and filling.  SDS area is growing larger.  Worst area in this field is NE along East facing slope of hill. No insects reported.

8/23/04.  Soybeans R5, will be starting R6 soon, SDS spots widening a bit. No insect problems.

8/31/04.  Soybeans R6.  Pods full, starting to turn a bit.  SDS spots about the same in the early wetter cool areas of the field.
