CyberRegs™ Report

A common requirement of any environmental management system is that the business should have a means of identifying legal and other requirements, and a means of determining how those requirements apply to the business.

In July 2006, Iowa Soybean Association initiated a pilot project  through the CEMSA program that would explore how to assist producers with timely identification of legal and other requirements that impact operation and management of the farm.

The project, supported by NRCS funding and operating under the leadership of CEMSA Program Manager Heath Ellison, entailed piloting the use of a internet tool, CyberRegsTM for tracking and reporting on laws, regulations and proposed rules at the federal and state level.

Dr. Doug Johnson, Environmental Intelligence Inc.,   assists   with various aspects of the Heath CyberRegsTM project. Dr. Johnson is an experienced EMS consultant and has extensive knowledge of the legislative processes that produce the laws that govern agriculture.

During 2006, Dr. Johnson assisted with getting the project underway and provided review, analysis and insightful perspective on how changes in the regulatory climate affect producer-members of ISA.
