![]() North Central Leadership Summit On Nutrient Management & Water Quality Farm leaders, conservationists, researchers, and representatives of agribusiness, municipalities and agencies from around the Midwest gathered in Des Moines in late August for the North Central Leadership Summit on Nutrient Management and Water Quality. The Summit was organized and supported by the Iowa Soybean Association and the Sand County Foundation (Madison, Wisconsin), with funding from the Bradley Fund for the Environment (Madison, Wisconsin), and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. As
a farmer-directed organization, the Iowa
Soybean Association (ISA)
recognized that its farmer members are genuine stakeholders in the ongoing
debate about water quality. We also knew that no amount of good intentions and spot-applied practices would fully satisfy environmentalists or regulation-minded agencies. What we needed was a recognizable framework and leadership programming for farmers demonstrating environmental diligence and performance. That’s why we assembled a series of programs that address environmental and agronomic issues at the critical operation and decision-making points of agriculture: • the field level – The On-Farm Network • the farm operation level – CEMSA, and • the watershed level – Watershed Programming We’re excited about what we’ve learned, what we’ve accomplished, and what the future holds. We invite you to look over what has been accomplished so far, and we invite you to get involved and help us move this work forward. |
